As close to normal as you can get
Udi's Gluten Free bread is as close to regular bread as you can get. It is soft and flexible and can be eaten without being toasted! It's good for a sandwich or for anything else that you use bread for.
So far, I've found it in the Whole Foods in La Jolla (not the Hillcrest one) for $4.99. They have it in white sandwich bread and multigrain varieties. But if you see it, buy it because they sell fast!

UPDATE: Thanks to helpful readers, it seems that Wholefoods in Hillcrest DOES carry Udi's bread - they must have been out when I went in. Also, it is available at Healthy Creations in Encinitas (along with the Udi's brand pizza crust).
I think the lesson here is to call ahead before you go to make sure your chosen store has Udi's in stock.
Move over Glutino, UDI's has arrived!!!!

Its been in Hillcrest for two weeks now! Chances its already sold out. Udi's pizza crusts are amazing too. Thanks to Udi's I might actually start buying bread instead of making it every week!
ReplyDeleteYou can also buy it in Healthy Creations in Encinitas! I like the hearty version even better.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Healthy Creations sells (frozen) pizza crust made by UDI that is also fabulous (thin crust style).
ReplyDeleteThis bread is so good! If you haven't tried it yet, please do! It's nice not to have to toast this bread before you eat it. Thank you UDI!!!!
ReplyDeleteIf there isn't any Udi's bread in the gluten free case (or any other gluten free item is out of stock) ask for it at the bakery counter and they will check in the freezer for you. Udi's really is the best gluten free bread.
ReplyDeleteI just got my first shipment from Udi's. I bought both bread varieties, and their muffins. My son is gluten sensitive and I couldn't find a bread that he liked--until now! He LOVES Udi's bread! And we all eat the muffins. They are amazing! Not only were they the best gluten-free muffins I ever had, I think they were the best muffins I've ever had! I live outside of Philadelphia. I'm hoping to find Udi's in a wholefoods store near me. I haven't checked yet since I just discovered this wonderful bread.
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog and am in love with it! I live in San Diego too and recently discovered that I'm gluten intolerant. I've been struggling with trying to find foods that don't taste so "health-foodish". Thank you so much for this blog. I'll definitely be an avid reader.
ReplyDeleteJust a heads-up that Cardiff Seaside Market apparently now carries the Udi's bread as well.
ReplyDeleteSo glad I checked your blog out. We are coming back to Del Mar for our yearly trip and I was wondering where I would find the Udi's! I'm bringing one loaf from home with me but will need more since we are staying to weeks. This is very helpful info for me. Thanks!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhole Foods is doing better keeping Udi's in stock these days. They have whole fridges dedicated to Udi products.
ReplyDeleteI just discovered Udi bread at Whole Foods and I love it! Finally I look forward to making sandwiches again. Love your blog and will be trying your recommendations in the future.
ReplyDeleteMy sister-in-law bought Udi bread for me while I visiting in South Jersey. I have had a hard time finding it anywhere in east county San Diego. Once at Henry's, but I have never seen it again. Does anyone know of a place in east county where it is sold?
ReplyDeleteyou can order it online at various places and have them ship it to you frozen.
